I started training karate in New Zealand at the age of 12 and since then it has been a big part of my life and growth as a person. After a few years of intermittent training during university and work, I received my Shodan in 2017. Karate for me is a lifelong physical, mental and spiritual journey, on which I’m always learning new things! In 2018 I started teaching the beginners’ karate class and absolutely love seeing so many wonderful students grow as individuals. I am always thinking up new ways to challenge (torture) students!
Outside of karate, I am currently pursuing a Ph.D in environmental microbiology (mostly researching viruses). I love hiking, backpacking and all things science (yes, very nerdy)
